Who is The Original Josh Cohen?

The Original Josh Cohen is a Chicago-based writer, poet, cartoonist, editor and enthusiast of rhyme, wordplay and general artistic hilarity.

Okay, but who is he really?

I spent my childhood in the northern suburbs of Cincinnati, Ohio. When I wasn’t being tormented by the Bengals or teased by the Reds, I was conjugating verbs or irritating my sister with incessant trumpet practicing. And when I wasn’t doing that, I was writing poetry, doodling or reading - from the fantastical world of Piers Anthony and the poetry of Shel Silverstein to the uplifting philosophy of Albert Camus and the sheer ridiculousness of Baseball Quotations: The Wisdom and Wisecracks of Players, Managers, Owners, Umpire, Announcers, Writers and Fans on the Great American Pastime (which I still reference on occasion).

I later earned a B.A. from Tufts University in Boston and a law degree from the University of Cincinnati before moving to Chicago to practice human rights and social justice law. I instantly took to my new home’s hot dogs, but not to its pizza. A brief stint representing vulnerable Chicago communities was followed by a less brief stint consulting for less vulnerable multi-national corporations.

In 2019 I bid farewell to corporate America to return to my creative roots. These days I write picture books, poetry, flash fiction and creative nonfiction. I also offer editing and proofreading services.
